The index shows the rents owners ask today in listings for apartments to rent, in each city we work in. It's updated once a month.

Asking rents from active listings. A "–" means there are too few listings in the city to publish a median.
How the index is calculated
- Asking rents. The index is based on the rents owners ask in listings for apartments to rent in each city. The signed rent is sometimes a little lower.
- Active listings only. A listing that was taken down is not counted.
- Regular apartments and garden apartments only. Units within a house, basements, private houses and penthouses are left out of the median, because their rents are very different. They are counted in the number of active listings.
- A median, not an average. Half the apartments ask less and half ask more. One unusually expensive apartment doesn't move it.
- Implausible prices are removed. A rent below 1,500 ₪ or above 30,000 ₪ a month is almost always an error in the listing.
- A minimum number of listings. We don't publish a median for a city with fewer than 10 apartments, or for a room count with fewer than 5.
What the index doesn't tell you
It doesn't tell you what a specific apartment should rent for. That depends on the neighbourhood, the floor, the condition, parking and the balcony. It also doesn't measure existing leases. Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics measures those, and its figures are lower, because they include older leases renewed without a large increase.
